Back in 2009 I started getting ideas for instruments, but I didn’t want to buy materials for my ideas. If my ideas didn’t work it would have been a waste of money and a waste of materials. So, I started looking around me at the materials I had to hand to see what could be made from them.
It wasn’t long before I realised that by limiting myself to just recycled and reclaimed materials, it was forcing me to be more creative with the instruments I was building.
Since then I’ve been taking commissions from people for instruments, I’ve been running workshops and talks on how to build DIY instruments and have performed solo and collaborative performances on my more experimental instruments.
I’ve performed or talked at The Tate Modern, The Royal College of Music, The Royal College of Art, Music Tech Fest Central (Slovenia), Music Tech Fest Berlin, Music Hack Space, #MTFSatelite Genova Italy, London Hackspace, Childwickbury Arts Faire, The Great Home Hack, London Mini Maker Faire and London Arduino Day. I was also Artist in Residence for Machinesroom.
